Synthetic Field Systems
Cheek Field at Farris Stadium, the venue for Centre College football and soccer games located in Danville, KY, was originally constructed in 1923. As part of a program to upgrade their athletic facilities Vescio’s Sportsfields selected in 2009 as the design/build team to redesign and reconstruct the field with a new synthetic turf surface. The project included the removal of the school’s grass football field along with the goal post and game clock. The field was expanded and configured to accommodate football and soccer with additional graphics to assist in lining the field for men’s and women’s lacrosse and field hockey. The new synthetic surface is 88,000 SF in area and is surrounded with a 6-lane rubberized track. Included in the construction project were the installation of goal post, play clocks, a new scoreboard and a netting system to protect Centre’s Sutcliffe Athletic Center.
With their upgrades, Centre College now has one of the premier Athletic Facilities in the state and in all of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
“We at Centre College did extensive research on the different kinds of turf that were available to us and selected Vescio’s SportsFields. One, Doug Vescio is first and foremost a field builder, he has built every type of field being used today. I am pleased to say that we have not been disappointed with our finished product. The field is sharp looking, the playability of the surface is superb and the versatility is amazing.”
