Tight Timeline and Multi-Sport Integration
The renovation of Lexington Catholic High School’s multi-purpose sports field presented several challenges, primarily around timing and the integration of multiple sports. The project began after the football season in late November, with the goal of having the field ready for baseball practice by February 1st. This gave us a narrow window to complete the work, as Kentucky’s winter weather often complicates construction schedules.
One of the key challenges was the unpredictability of when the football season would end. The team made a strong playoff run, so the field was not available until mid-November, which left us with limited time to complete the renovation before baseball and softball season began. Additionally, soccer, lacrosse, and football all required specific lines to be marked on the field, making coordination of these multiple sports critical.
Strategic Planning and Efficient Execution
The field had to be designed to accommodate a variety of sports, including baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, and football. This required precise planning to ensure that all lines for each sport could be properly marked and accommodated without interfering with one another.
Given the tight timeline, we began work as soon as the football season ended, carefully coordinating the sequence of construction and field markings. While we had to complete the entire field for baseball and softball, we started with sections that could be finished earlier, allowing some areas of the field to be used before the whole project was complete.
Result
Despite the challenges, including weather delays and the complex multi-sport requirements, we were able to meet the February 1st deadline, ensuring that the baseball and softball teams could begin their practices on time. The field was fully integrated with lines for all sports, ensuring that Lexington Catholic High School could use it for a variety of athletic events throughout the year.
The project’s success came from careful planning, proactive scheduling, and the ability to work efficiently within a limited timeframe, all while managing the integration of multiple sports on one field.
