Case Study

Leslie County High School Football Field Renovation

The Project

AT A GLANCE

Leslie County High School has a storied football program, highlighted by Tim Couch, a legendary figure in Kentucky high school football. However, when it came to renovating the football field, there were two major challenges that had to be overcome: site access and water management.

Project

CHALLENGES

Challenge 1: Steep Site Access
The field is located on a very steep hill with no additional access points, making it difficult to transport materials and equipment. With this limited access, it was crucial to ensure that construction could proceed efficiently despite the challenging terrain.

Challenge 2: Water Management
Another significant hurdle was the natural water flow down the mountain towards the field. The site’s drainage system needed to be carefully planned to handle offsite water runoff and prevent flooding. The goal was to address water management before it reached the field, ensuring the area remained playable and safe.

Project

SOLUTION

Solution: Strategic Design & Value Engineering
We approached this project with a design-build strategy, focusing on delivering effective solutions within a tight timeline. By incorporating advanced water drainage strategies early in the process, we were able to prevent excess water from pooling on the field. Additionally, through value engineering, we streamlined the design to reduce costs without sacrificing performance or durability. The result was a high-quality football field that met the unique challenges of the site and provided a long-term solution for the Leslie County program.
