Outfield Upgrade: Synthetic Turf & Drainage Solution
When the time came to replace the synthetic turf, the university decided to take things a step further by upgrading the outfield to synthetic turf as well. This decision required us to develop a new grading and drainage plan for the outfield, which would need to integrate seamlessly with the existing synthetic infield. One of the biggest challenges was addressing water management issues, as the field had experienced standing water during heavy rain in the past. The new drainage system was designed to completely eliminate standing water on the field, ensuring that the field would remain playable and safe, regardless of weather conditions.
Efficient & Economical Drainage Design
To efficiently manage the drainage for the entire field, we designed two separate systems: one for the infield and one for the outfield. While the infield retained its original drainage system, the outfield’s synthetic turf field had its own dedicated drainage system. This approach allowed for an economical solution that ensured optimal water management across the entire field while maintaining the integrity of both the infield and outfield turf.
Result
The ongoing improvements to EKU’s baseball field have resulted in a high-quality, durable playing surface that meets the evolving needs of the program. With the addition of the synthetic outfield and an upgraded drainage system, the field is now better equipped to handle any weather conditions. Our partnership with EKU has spanned multiple phases, each designed to improve the field’s performance and ensure it remains a top-tier facility for years to come.
